Today's post is exciting for two reasons. First and foremost, Yvette finally agreed to write another post for us (she wrote one last year on sour crop that was so popular that I've been bugging her ever since to write again).  Second, we have a wonderful new sponsor Chicken Doors who offered to send one lucky winner an automatic Chicken Door!

Do you miss the mornings when you had those extra minutes to stay in bed? How about missing those nights of being able to be away from home - without a care in the world? I used to answer yes to both of these questions – until 3 years ago....

My venture into the life of chicken raising was a ‘Bucket List’ wish that I finally had the opportunity to indulge in. I will easily admit, it’s the BEST thing I ever did 4 years ago!!

I’m definitely a morning gal, but come the weekends – I’ve been known to wish that I could lazily get out of bed without the pressures of having to get out of bed - just to let the chickens out of the coop. I’m sure many of you know exactly what I’m talking about!

A few years back, a friend told me about these automatic chicken doors that she had heard about. Of course, my eyes widened with excitement and I knew I just had to look into this. After doing a little research, sure enough – I found ChickenDoors.com!

The people there are very friendly and informative. They answered all my questions and by the end of our phone call, my order was placed!! Within a few days the wonderful package arrived on my door step and we had it installed and programmed to go in a very short amount of time. The directions for installation were so easy to follow, anyone could do it!
Now don’t get me wrong, I do love watching my hens come running down the ramp in the mornings – and I also enjoy tucking them in at night. Although now I have the option (if I choose to), to stay in bed for those extra minutes on the weekends but mostly I have the assurance of knowing that if I’m out after dark, they are tucked in and safe because the door has closed up behind them. We also are now able to leave for a few days at a time without having to get a chicken sitter.

There are several options to choose from in how yours will operate. We have power at our coop so we chose to have the float charger / battery. We adjust the timings on our door a few times a year, depending on the length of the days. Without fail, the door opens and closes at the times we set it for. If we ever have a power failure, our back up battery kicks in and will continue to operate the door for weeks at a time. We had one episode of power failure for 2 days and sure enough, the chicken door continued to do it’s thing! They also have a solar powered option for those of you that would choose to go that route.

So, after using this product for over 3 years, I would highly recommend it to everyone that has chickens. You might think it’s spendy – but what I can tell you is that its well worth the money you’ll put down to purchase it.

  1. I work an hour away from home, it's even a 30 minute drive to the grocery store. We find we avoid going anywhere but home unless it's summer so we can get the chickens in. Even visiting my mom out of town is a problem since I can't be certain anyone would be able to take care of them in time. We've got raccoon, opossum, coyotes and owls all over our ridge top so you can see why this would be helpful. Thank you for the opportunity to learn about the doors and a chance in the giveaway!

  2. Would love to have one so we could go visit my family who lives four hours from us. I don't feel confident about any of my neighbors watching my chickens for a weekend and remembering to let them out in the morning and close them up at night. This would certainly put me at ease to go away. Katlyn ktbug22288@yahoo.com

    1. I agree Katlyn! We also travel 4 hours to see our families and its SO nice to know that we are able to do it for a few days without getting someone to tend to the hens. AND we know they are safely tucked in all night!

    1. It's also SO nice on rainy / cold days!! Truthfully, I love it most at night if we aren't home right at dark to lock them up!

  5. We love to get away and we love our ladies too! It would be great not to have to worry about finding chickens sitters when we go on quick trips! Sleeping in is a plus too, of course!

  6. Winning this Chicken Door would be PERFECT timing! We are in the process of building The Chicken Inn II and already have the opening cut to the 11 x 15 size, as suggested on The Chicken Door site. We are newly weds and are starting out on our homestead adventure together here at The Old Five Notch Farm. Our first investment is our chickens! It would be wonderful to have this chicken door to install in our brand new coop. Our day old chicks are due to on the farm the week of April 23rd :0) Thanks for the opportunity!

  7. The winters are long, cold and snowy, but it would be nice for our 'girls' to be able to go out in their covered run first thing i the morning without waiting for me on my mornings to have my coffee. :-) Thanks for the opportunity.

  8. Welllll, I think our birds deserve the very best. Sometimes finances aren't there but we do the best we can. This would be an extra treat for our girls!

  9. I would LOVE to have an automatic chicken door! I found your site and feel like you are my "soul chicken sister"! My girls have brought to me this "hen zen" (I call it). Having hens, for me, has been one of the best things I have done (my father and I were going to do it, but he has since passed away and I just know he would have enjoyed it so much). He had hens as a child but I think it would have been "work" at that time, these girls are my pets. I keep my hens at my mom's (she's elderly so I do all the work) and each evening I drive up the hill to tuck them in and let them out in the morning (gets weary some mornings but when I get there, they make me feel so good and of course they leave me little treats). Thanks for this site, I enjoy it so much! I just came on here today to get herb ideas for the nest aromatherapy (ordering seeds today).

  11. I need to add a second door to my existing hen house and will also be building another hen house this summer. This would be a great addition! Thank you for the opportunity to win.

  12. We are first time chicken owners (last April). My hubby built me a great coop and wonderful predator proof covered run. We had no idea there was something like an automatic chicken coop door.

My mom is in a nursing home an hour away so one of us has to be home to close up the girls this winter as its cold here in Ohio.

The automatic chicken door would make life a bit easier.

  13. I might finally be able to take a vacation!! Thanks for the giveaway.

  14. Lost almost all my chickens this winter, my new chicks I had hatched this summer, now have to move from my family home of 30 years, want to take my chickens and this would be great for their new pen in our new life!

  15. I leave for work early in the morning. With the door, I can set it to open after I leave!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I follow you on Facebook ( Spanish Farrell, don't want weird people finding me) Didn't know you had a blog, but following that now!!

And I wish I had this because it would be great to have this when my arthritis is killing me on those cold bitter mornings. I've had arthritis since I was 18. Wouldn't wish that on anybody.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This would be an awesome addition to the new coop we need to build. I think the girls would appreciate being able to get out earlier than I can let them out some days! I would feel really good about knowing that they are safe at night and still able to get out in the morning. Thanks for helping to get this opportunity for everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  18. This would be the greatest feature of the new coop I'm building! No more late nights with the coop door open because we aren't back home yet!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Boy, when I go out these cold nights and mornings to close and open the coop each day, I so wish I had an automatic coop door!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Exactly what the hens have been asking for!

    ReplyDelete
  21. We are building our first coop this summer - would love to incorporate this automatic door into our design.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Would love a automatic door for all the same reasons as Yvette, cute article btw.... sure would be fabulous!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. We'd love to win an automatic door. Being a teacher, there are times I leave before dawn in order to prep the classroom and the poor chickens wait until I get back from work before they can go outside. The same with the evenings. Sometimes there's a parent-teacher conference and I don't get home until after dark. The chickens are usually in their coop, but with the door open and unprotected against coons until I get home to close it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. What a super giveaway! That would be perfect for us. My son and I each have our own flocks, and being that we are very busy 2 families, an automatic door would just fit the bill as we often don't get home in time to shut the girls up for the night till after dark. We also have critters to worry about. Thanks for the chance to win.

  25. My kids are grown and my hubby works out of town. Classic "empty nest syndrome", of course, except for the girls. With this automatic chicken door, you mean to tell me I could actually go somewhere, worry-free?!!! How wonderful that would be! Sign me up!

    ReplyDelete
  26. The convenience of an automatic door would be great. This is one main reason why we don't go away. We will be restructuring the hen house and this would be great timing. Thanks for the great description of the door and the opportunity to win such a great and useful item!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'd like a chicken door for all the reasons you mentioned.....

  28. I'm a fb fan already and follow you blog. I would love to win one so I could stay in on those freezing winter morning and evenings ;)

  29. Oh I neeeed this!! For one, yes there are some morning that I just do. not. want. to get out of bed. But it would be nice to be able to go away for a few days and not have to get a chicken sitter!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just as any other chicken mama can tell you- being out after dark brings anxiety to chicken keeping. My husband and I talk about this all the time and he insists that I worry too much. This automatic chicken door would bring SO MUCH relief and allow me to know that they are tucked in without being so exposed to wildlife, if we choose to be out past dusk. I thank you for the chance to win one...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am a fan and follow via Google Friend Connect. Would love this for when we build our new coop.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Tooster Latry and I do not get along would be nice not to have to stand behind the door will a stick in my hand

    ReplyDelete
  33. I work 2 jobs so I leave early and get home early. I would love the door because I wouldn't have to worry about my girls being venerable waiting for me to get home and shut their door.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It would wonderful to be able to leave for a few days without having to worry about having someone come and open up the girls and put them to bed!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Already a FB and follow by email :) Why would I LOVE to win this? well since I am the only one in this family who seems to be able to get up each morning to open the coop and to go out each night to close it, I would like a vacation now and then LOL Plain and simple, I want less responsibility!!! There have been days when it is past dark and I slap my head and run out to shut the door and HOPE nothing has gotten in yet. Mama needs a back up

    ReplyDelete
  36. Winters are cold; this door will help keep it warm in the evenings when the ladies go in early; stop the drafts.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It would be amazing to not have to worry about critters grabbing the girls when we may have to work late, in the winter when the sun sets super early, or we got tied up in town. We could actually to visit family, several states away, without having to worry that the person looking after the flock will forget or just decide to skip it today.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am not a "spring chicken" myself anymore and have some chronic health issues that occasionally make me move a little slow in the morning. We also have to make day long trips several times a year to my Oncologist many miles away and (God forbid)another hospital stay. I am always concerned we will not be home in time to tuck the girls safely in and sometimes we have to leave them locked in because we had to leave before dawn. An automatic door would be a real answer to prayer!!!!
I did not have to like or sign up because I am already a faithful follower of your wonderful blog!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love this door. I would love not having to worry about my girls in the early mornings or evening. We are adding to our small flock and this would ve awesome for the new coop.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Would be so nice to have on the new (& improved!) coop we will start construction on soon! Thanks for the opportunity! =)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I already like you guys on FB and follow your blog by email.....We are planning our first coop and door options have been heavy on my mind. We don't travel a great deal, but are often gone for one or two days each weekend in the spring/summer for the kid's track team. Having a door like this would be such a blessing!

    ReplyDelete
  42. This would definitaly make life easier! We'd be able to go visit family that live 8 hours away without having to find a critter-sitter that could get to the house both early mornings and in the evenings. Other than collecting eggs and open/closing the door, my girls realy only have to be taken care of every few days since they have a 4 gallon gravity waterer and a feeder that can hold 20 pounds of food, so having an automatic opener would be great! Thanks for a great blog!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ah what an awesome chance for a great prize. Flock safety is the best reason to have an automatic door. The poultry can be nice and safe even if I can not get home in time to lock them up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would love to win this. My current coop has an automatic door (different company and design) and it is almost more trouble than it is worth. We are building a new chicken house and this would be amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh boy! What an awesome giveaway! As I'm reading this, I'm laying in my warm bed wishing I had an automatic chicken door to let the ladies out! I know they would appreciate it :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I will be building a bigger coop this spring for all the new additions that I have planned for this year and this would be perfect for my girls. It would make me feel more secure also that they are not waiting for me to close the door on the days that I get home late.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love my chickens but working outside my home specially during the winter makes it hard because when I get home it's already dark and the chickens are in the coop. my children don't always remember to close the chicken door and don't want to go out there at night when it's dark. winning this door would be awesome and a great help

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh wow Lisa this one's amazing! I'd love to win it for just the reason you said, that i'd be able to catch a few more zz's on weekend mornings. My girls would love the freedom ;)

  50. blessed fresh eggs! it is surely a good morning when the chickens come out of the coop and a good evening when they shoo back in! My girlfriend would love this Automatic Chicken Door when her old knees just would not "want" to make that trip to the coop. She shares her chicken eggs when we are able to get together and I love them! What a treat for her if I could win this for her.

  51. I would love to win this door, it would be a great accompaniment to the new chicken house my husband will be building once the snow melts. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm on my first adventure with chickens and my neighbor was telling me about how wonderful these are! Would love to win one! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. This is great! My kiddos would really love to have this. They get incredibly perturbed with me when I oversleep! :~o

    ReplyDelete
  54. What a fun option for those snow in the yard days!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I would love to try out this door. It would make me feel my girls are so much safer in the evening when I can't make it home to them by their bedtime.

    ReplyDelete
  56. would love one of these to protect my girls. have have foxes ,racoons, cyotes, hawks and owls that would love a chicken dinner. would be one less thing for me to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  57. This would be awesome! We have 3 boys who we're trying to teach a lil bit of farm life and I would feel better for my girls for those times when extra curricular activities keep them from putting them to bed on time!

I follow on FB and get the awesome emails!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I would love one of these, No more interruption of the Saturday morning sleepin with the kiddo's :-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think this would be a great tool to use in our homesteading journey.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I would love to win this!! My husband, who wasn't totally behind this whole chicken thing, gets up at dawn, blizzard, temps in the teens -whatever, and goes out back to let the girls out. This would be my way of saying "Thanks Honey for coming over to the ' chicken side'!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I would love to be able to stay snuggled in my bed on the weekends too. Could this work for my dogs too? lol Ok, so I entered any and every way imaginable. I liked on fb, I signed up for email, you got me on google+ and on networked blogs :) Now to keep my toes and fingers crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  62. This would be the perfect addition to our coop! Come March I will be starting my very early morning farm job and having on less big task at my 'homestead' would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  63. It would be nice to have one of these doors, I have lost 30 hens last winter from Owl's alone they just go right in the chicken door when we don't get them shut in right away, one night we pulled into the driveway with the chickens going crazy I opened the big door to have a owl looking at me from the roost. So yes coming home late we always have one chicken killed from the owl's in the winter in the summer the raccoon's just come right in and kill, one night coming home and the coon had killed 2 and was on top of another one which died from her injury's, I did get that coon though, so yes one of these door's would make life so much better for me and my hen's.

    ReplyDelete
  64. This would be an awesome thing! Our late winters and spring are very wet and its difficult to get out to open/close the girls coops when the yard is mucky; living on a shoestring means not always having the right shoes/boots for the conditions. This would be a dream come true!

    ReplyDelete
  65. OMG! Hubby and I were just researching an automatic chicken door. We didn't even know such a think existed until we laughingly said how cool it would be to have one and decided to google it. We're building a new coop that is absolutely fabulous....Seriously, it's nicer than our own house. We're almost finished and an automatic door would just be the icing on the cake. I can just see my techie engineer hubby bringing all his friends into the back yard to admire his chicken door.

    ReplyDelete
  66. This will be a great addition to the coop we plan to build this spring. Still in the planning phase, but want to do it right. Will order our very first baby chicks in April. Thanks for all the info you have in your blog and FB page.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I love the idea of an automatic chicken door! I may be starting a second job here soon & my schedule will be all over the place, so this would be a load off my mind ! I would put it to very good use !

    Thanks for the contest !!!

  68. I NEED this, my husband has been in the hospital 3 hours away for the past few months rejecting his transplanted kidney. During this time my older neighbors have been great letting the girls in and out but I worry about them slipping and falling getting to the coop or they would forget, never mind the inconvenience this is for them. My girls love to free range but there are many days they are being left in because no one is around, please this would be fantastic and one less thing for me to stress about.

    ReplyDelete
  69. We have had a lot of problems with owl, raccoon, skunk, and other creatures taking a toll on our flock. This door would be a huge help in keeping them safe. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is such an awesome idea. I've heard of these and I think that some of our tax return money would be well spent on one of these. Right now my chickens refuse to go outside because of the snow, but as soon as it melts they go crazy to be outside.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hi! We are about to start designing our new coop and it would be great to incorporate the door into our design.

  72. Hubby finally gave in to building me a chicken coop. Getting started next week on his days off. I'm thrilled and can't wait. Winning this would just be perfect. This is the neatest invention I've ever seen. Gonna send this my neighbor also. I chicken sit for her a lot so this would help me as well.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I would love to sleep in once in awhile. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  74. This would sure be handy to let the girls out in the mornings and put them to bed at night!

    ReplyDelete
  75. This would be great on the mornings when I just want to lay in bed!

    ReplyDelete
  76. This would be so handy for protecting our flock while we are away. There are many times when we are gone to gymnastics, ballgames, and other family activities and can't get back until well after dark to shut the coop. The extra time on weekends and extra cold mornings would be an added bonus!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am brand new to chickens and deff cell the daddy thou describe in the blog. Nithing could be more handy than this door.

    ReplyDelete
  78. First of all, my chick-a-dees would be locked up all snug and safe in their house until all the possums and raccoons and skunks go to bed! The door would let the out at just the right time to begin their day!! There would be no rush rush rush to let the chickies out in the morning before work and then having to worry that something could get in to them while it is still dark! What a WONDERFUL invention!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Automatic lock up each night would be wonderful protecting the girls from nite time preditors! We have a mink around that seems to be getting closer to our coop and they are so small they can get into the smallest of areas. One year we lost 80 meat birds in one night by mink! This was so upsetting to us that we stopped having chickens for many years. Now that we are back at it... This would sure provide peace of mind each night. This is a wonderful oppertunity~thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  80. In a nutshell my reason for wanting to win this is I do not go anywhere and I do not sleep in so that I get my chickens up in the morning and to bed at night locked in safely. I have not gone anywhere past dark since owning chickens and I have not slept in because of worrying about them being let out and for this my days are long. I also take care of my 2-year-old granddaughter so no rest and chasing a 2 year old with not much rest is tiring. I would love to win this as to be able to finally sleep in and maybe go out before dark to dinner with my husband :)he may finally see that I love him as much as my chickens...LOL thanks for the opportunity. queenb@epix.net

  82. I leave for work around 4:45am every morning for my hour drive to work. I open the girls' door then. I would like to be able to open it later but at present it isn't possible. I have been following your blog for a couple of years and also read your facebook posts. I would love to have the opportunity to win this giveaway.

  83. This would be awesome to win we are just starting out and our first little ladies will arrive in 3 weeks. :)

  84. We have a farm in WV. We're not there right now but hope to be this summer. One of the first things is building a coop in a part of the barn. I would love to have this so my future "girls" can go outside before I'm fully awake. lol (Since we will be moving when hubby retires, I don't imagine I'll be moving too fast in the mornings! lol)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thanks for the opportunity to learn about chickendoors.com and the opportunity for a chance to win. Unfortunately, we have found that not all our chicken sitters love our chickens like we do. It would make our familie's daily life much easier and less worrisome.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Fresh Eggs Daily- Liked on facebook; following your blog!! I would love to have this automatic door for our 25 chickens!! As my husband is responsible for morning chores- he sometimes has a hard time getting up to let the chickens out and feed the sheep until the absolute last second. I start to get anxious about them being cooped up and want to go let them out! But I have small children to deal with in the am, so it would be nice to know that if the hubby is catching a few more ZZZZs, that my ladies (and gentlemen) are getting out into the fresh air and sun as soon as possible!
Thank you for such a great blog and fb page! I really enjoy reading as I am a newbie to "chicken life" as my farm-boy hubby calls it!

  87. I would love the Chickendoor, so i wouldnt have to run right out every morning. I could take my time geting out to visit... thank you or ding this!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'm just getting started with chickens, but my 4 week old pullets would love to let me sleep in just a bit on weekends! I'm sure the auto door would be an awesome way to make that happen. :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. OOPS.. thank you *for doing this! :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Already Liked your FB page and follower of your blog. We're a small farm that raise alpacas and chickens. Our chickens routinely go in their coop & roost in their coop at night by themselves. Winning this automatic coop door would help alleviate on some the many chores we have on the farm :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. I am building the FED coop this spring for my flock and the automatic door system I have on the current coop won't work without heavy modification. Living in ND, where temps reach -30F and windchills get close to -60F, they really need the door closed each night. Without an automatic door, we can't leave town for a day or two to visit family... And who *doesn't* love an automatic door so you don't have to worry about the girls so much.

    ReplyDelete
  92. We have 4 small children and sometimes they require all out attention. This door would be wonderful for those nights of soccer games or mornings of sick little ones!

    ReplyDelete
  93. lm a stay home mom,we built our chicken coop from old barn wood, glass solarium out of patio doors so my girls have dirt to scratch under in the dirt to bath in the winter. we have modified the trap door a few times to keep them safe. But this door you have would do an Awesome job! Anything for my girls :) Thank you for a chance to win :)

    ReplyDelete
  94. I would love to have one less thing to worry about given that I'm currently looking after my 82 year old dad and five of my grandchildren.

    ReplyDelete
  95. We have weasels and my last barn cat has disappeared. Coyotes? Need one of these!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I would love to have one of these! My 9 year old daughter who loves to take care of our chickens does not like to go out in the dark to close up the door.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Tired of waking my husband up to lock up the chickens. lol

    ReplyDelete
  98. My hubby is going to build an all new chicken coop this spring, I would LOVE to win this for him. Your review really makes me think we need it!

    ReplyDelete
  100. This would make it so much easier to be able to spend some time away from home!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I would love the chicken door. Well, actually I think my chickens would love the auto chicken door. They would get to go out earlier in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I would love to have an automatic door for my girls. The door would definitely help on the nights I am late getting home from work, less worry about the chickens and a small blessing some mornings I am sure.
Thanks for the opportunity to win.

    ReplyDelete
  103. So neat I would love this! My coop doesn't have a door the chickies just come in go as they please into their run but I worry about predators sneaking in while they sleep this would solve that problem. Thank you for the opportunity :)

  109. Oh my gosh! Our coop is down a slippery clay filled hill. Sometimes the old bones find it hard to get down that hill after dark-an auto closing chicken door-heaven!

  110. Wow! What an awesome giveaway! I can't tell you how handy an automatic chicken door would come in around here! With 3 kids (2 with special needs) it can be hard to get outside to manage my coops in a timely manner on some mornings. Thank you Lisa and Yvette - and thank you Chicken Doors for doing this giveaway!

  111. We have hens now, but we are moving soon and will be building a new (bigger) henhouse. I'd LOVE to have an automatic door in the new coop!

  112. I would love to win this and I think my chickens would love for me to win this as well. I don't always get outside fast enough to let them out. With 3 kids and a busy life having an automatic door for the chickens to get out and start free ranging would make life just a little bit easier.

    ReplyDelete
  113. oh my gosh! This would be awesome to have! To not have to worry about opening up the coop or closing it up at night...that's just magical!

  114. I absolutely love my chickens. Caring for them and watching them live their happy lives is a way for me to relax and unwind. But I work two jobs and sometimes I am a little late getting their door closed up at night and sometimes I have to be gone for a couple of days. The person who cares for my animals when I am gone is wonderful but sometimes even she is really busy. An automatic door would be such a godsend! I had heard of them but have not really checked them out until now. PICK ME!!! PLEASE!

  115. I dream of having an automatic door! My husband is a combat disabled veteran and sometimes requires my care deep into the night, being able to get an hour or so extra sleep sometimes in the morning after a rough night would be a wonderful luxury!

  117. I would very much appreciate this door....I have 3 kids and run a small business. We are a busy family in the northeast, where it gets very cold.
our hens have an enclosed outdoor run, so this would be perfect.

  118. My Husband and I are down to one vehicle. When I have to use the truck we have to leave early and my chickens are not let out until I get back. When I have to go and pick Hubby up from work during the winter months it is still light out and my chickens are not in the coop yet and then when I return home it is dark out. This would put my mind at ease and also help out so much.

  120. We are getting ready to build another coop and it would be really nice to have a new door for it. Thank you!

  121. I soon need this chicken door. Especially if it opens sideways vs. lifting upwards. I love my sleep, and so does DH, but someone has to get up and let the girls out every morning. Please pick me! I never win anything... Maybe this could be the one time I do!

  122. We often go away for a weekend during the summer, and this door would solve the biggest problem of trying to find a neighborhood kid to let the girls out and then lock them back in. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Because my "ladies" deserve the BEST I would love to win this door!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. The chicken door would be wonderful for our setup. I hate opening the door before I have to go to work, never knowing if there are critters just waiting for the girls. And of course if a critter got a chicken it would be one of the hens instead of the too many roosters that we have!

    ReplyDelete
  125. This would be an awesome thing to win. It would help us with letting the girls in and out in the early morning. I go to school at night and work early in the morning and this would be a huge help to me. Please pick me !!

  127. We have a flock of 23 who swarm out of the coop every morning. We would love to have this for the convenience. The girls (hens) are actually my daughters and she adores them! Sign us up! :)

  128. We just built a large new coop and were planning on installing an automatic door. Although we have many neighbors and friends who are willing to reap the benefits of a backyard flock, few of them really appreciate our girls for themselves! An automatic door makes it easier in case we choose to take off for a weekend!

  130. An automstic door would be wondweful! Crossing my fingers. Good luck everybody!

  131. As I wrote on Facebook, I would love to win one of these, because I have lost chickens to predators in the past, and it is a sickening feeling, coming home after sunset, not knowing if "the girls" are safe, because I was not there to secure them inside the coop. We are planning on totally revamping our coop, in time to get chicks in the spring. (The "lazy morning" idea is just a possible bonus.)

  132. I have been a fan of your FB page & your blogs for a while now! I really enjoy your writings & information. We'd love to have an automatic door...sometimes when My Husband is out of town for work & I am visiting family, it can be difficult to find someone to close or open the girls door for 1 overnight. Everyone is so busy & our closest neighbor isn't one to come outside much if at all! This would be wonderful & then I don't have to worry about them if I get home late. ~~Julie @ angelflyerjdl@yahoo.com

  133. I would love to have the automotic door open becaue I work 12 hour shifts starting at 0500.

  134. We NEED this awesome prize! Our chickens are let out at either 6 or 10 am because of strange schedules..

..so our poor girls are clucking, " what's up with that" and lay sporadically as if to say "we'll get our act together when you do!"

    ReplyDelete
  135. Once I win this automatic Chicken Door it will allow me (and my wife) to get those few extra minutes of REM stage sleep so that I can focus all my attention on feeding, cleaning, wrangling and Coyote watching. So as you can see I must win this contest for the sake of the chickens. Now need for anyone else to enter.

  136. I am currently building a coop and have been trying to figure out how to build an automatic door. This would be so much better than what I could create.

    ReplyDelete
  137. My husband and I are retired and would like to take short trips from time to time. This necessitates having someone take care of our chickens for us. It would be much easier on that person if we had the automatic door opener!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I would love to win the chicken door because I leave for work before the sun comes up and get home after it goes down in the evening. Now that my daughter is gone to college, I worry when I let my chickens out in the morning that a predator is lurking in the dark and at night when they go up before I get home, I'm afraid they will get attacked. My husband is disabled and he doesn't get out there alot to get them closed up but sometimes he does. It just depends on how he is feeling. It would make my life a lot less worrisome and keep my girls safe from harm. Lisa

  139. Would love this so we could go away in the afternoon and not have to hurry home to close up the girls at night.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I am a full time culinary/baking student and am in class by 6am. The automatic door will help me not to rely on somebody else to open their door AND eliminate my fear of opening their door way too early in the back of early morning and possibly into the mouths of predators!

    ReplyDelete
  141. I don't currently keep chickens, because of the hours I work. This would help make that dream possible...and in the interim, I could loan it to my friend that I currently purchase eggs from!

    ReplyDelete
  142. With the winter weather, an automatic door would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Thanks for sponsoring this giveaway! I follow your blog on my Google Reader account. I would love an automatic chicken door for my first flock of chickens, which will be arriving in April. As an early riser, letting the chickens out in the morning won't be a problem, but I sometimes have to work late and don't get home until after dark. We have seen lots of predators in our area (fox, racoons, skunks, possums, coyotes, etc), so an automatic door would allow me to let the chickens outside on days we'll be home after dark.

    ReplyDelete
  144. We would love this chicken door so we can go away overnight and not have to worry about our girls.

    1. Haha, no we haven't (yet)..!! It has a wonderful feature though that when the door initially closes, it will automatically open back up after about 30 seconds for any stragglers to get in. It will then again close after another minute and then stays closed for the night.! LOVE this door SO much!!

  148. my girls just gave a workshop on taking care of chickens at a 4H education day. one of the things they wished they had was an automatic chicken door so they could sleep in on Saturdays. So I'm entering this hoping to win for them the opportunity to sleep in on saturday.

  149. I am getting chick's this spring and this would be perfect for my coop! I have been wondering how I would make sure my girls are locked up safe at night, especially when the days get shorter. Some days I don't get home until after dark. This would be the perfect solution!

    ReplyDelete
  150. I do follow you on facebook and am an email subscribber as well!
I would love to have an automatic chicken door for the times when we are gone (sometimes 9 days at a time) and my father-in-law takes care of our chickens. As he nears 80 it would be nice to not worry that HE has to get up earlier or be out after dark. The fact that I would reap those benefits too is just a big bonus!

  151. would love to be able to go away for the weekend eamping and not have to worry if the girls were left out early enough of if they were locked in snug at night, this would make a great addition to our coop. good luck to all those entering!

  154. Whether you work nights and need to sleep in, work days and covet every extra minute of sleep or need to go out of town for the weekend and your chicken sitter bails the day before you leave - you need this door. As a person who has fallen into all three of those categories I would love to win this door.

  155. Living is ALASKA sure has it's challenges, the weather being the biggest! Getting up on dark, cold mornings to open the chicken coop door when it is 20 below zero is not for the faint at heart!! But I do it because I love my girls! Having an automatic chicken door would save me from getting up, getting cold, and would make my hubby one happy guy because then I wouldn't crawl back in bed with my ice cold feet!! :)

  157. Oh man would I love to have this! I leave for work at 3:30 am and have to open the door at that time - the husband doesn't "do" chickens. I've been lucky for 3 years that no predators have got them, but this sure would be a blessing!

  158. It would be so SWEET to win this chicken door! Not only are we building a new coop for our babies, but this door would be a HUGE help to me. I have several medical problems, and it's hard sometimes for me to get down to the chickens to let them out, etc. With this door I wouldn't have to worry so much when I'm not able to get down there when I need to. Usually, the door stays open which worries me because of potential predators. So far I have been blessed, because no ground predators have found them. I know my luck will eventually run out, though. So this automatic door would be a GREAT help!

As you said, it would be really nice to stay in bed a little longer on weekends without feeling guilty. And it would be a lot easier for the chicken sitter when we go away for a few days. I wish to be the lucky one. Good luck to everyone!!

  163. after checking out every library book on chickens, following just about every chicken FB page for 6 months plus...my hubby surprised me by getting me a chicken coop and 4 sweetest baby chicks ever TODAY! my backyard chicken journey started today and i couldnt be prouder. A chicken door would be the icing on the cake! So excited to finally have chicks in my, and my family's life. my children couldnt be happier! Thank you for offering this giveaway!

  164. I would love to win this because, frankly hubby & I are not morning people. Even if we were, it seems like our kids need so much attention first thing in the morning that our chickens have to wait. I REALLY wish we had this last week when we all had the stomach virus. Our poor chickens got neglected and stuck in their coop while we were all sick. Hubby is also our youth pastor, and we aren't sure yet who will come let our chickens out while we are at church camp this summer. (This is our first year to raise chickens.) In short, this door would save us a lot of stress and help us ensure our chickens are well-cared for!

  165. Just started keeping chickens this winter. We got 4 hens and a old coop off craigslist.com and my husband made them a new coop and I think it will work great for them to get out in the mornings. I just go 6 Rhoda Island Red chick that will enjoy using it one day!

  171. The automatic chicken door would make life so much easier for us. I leave for work long before the sun even thinks about rising. My husband plays drums in a band, and doesn't get home until really late, sometimes 3am. It would allow him to sleep in and not have to worry about getting up a few hours after going to bed just to let the chickens out.
Thank you so much for the chance to win one.

  176. Oh my goodness! I would love this door! I fell and injured my knee back in September and have had surgery on it as recently as early January. This would help me so much. I am currently having to get my daughter and son to go out and do it or talk sweet to my hubby. It would be so nice to have them let out in the morning without having to talk someone else into doing it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I would love to win this door! I, too have some health issues that make it hard and some days impossible to get to the coop. My babies have to wait until I can call someone to drive over and help me out. I love your blog and thank you for all the useful info.

  178. After a few years of urban homesteading, some family changes made me move to a rural area and begin homesteading as a single parent. I have just started building my coop (all by myself!) and would love to add an automatic door. What a time saver!

  179. I already follow the blog by email and I liked your facebook page ... Man that door sure would help keep the skunks, coons and coyote critters that try to get our chickens after dark when I am late to do chores....

  181. I work part time at the local hospital and babysit my grandchildren each week. On those days the chickens don't get out until late in the day! I live 3 miles down the road from our 23 acre fruit farm and I have just increased my flock from 10 chickens to 34 ( yes, I got hooked) This door would greatly help at those moments that I cannot get to the farm early.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I would love to have one of these! I am like you, I can't stand getting up early to let them out and I always feel guilty when I don't get out there very early. It would be so nice to know they are safely inside at night too. We are gone a lot in the evenings.

    ReplyDelete

  185. I would love to win this automatic door so that my husband would no longer have to leave the dry warm house to lock up the chickens at night. He is diabetic and has a bad hip, but never fails to go out into the cold, rainy, weather to lock up his girls.

  186. I'll never forget the time when we came home late one Christmas Eve to find a FOX inside the chicken coop. It had killed several of our birds and it was so devastating! I didn't want to ask anyone to close up for me because it was icy and I didn't want them to fall. If I only had such a door back then. I would so love to install an automatic door on our coop!! Fingers crossed!

  188. We will be adding a second door to the coop late spring/early summer and it would be perfect if it just happened to be by chickendoors.com While it will provide comfort at letting them out in the morning, I would still be a worry wart and make sure they all made it in at night, with a head count. We plan to travel this spring and I'm already worried for their safety and hope to find comfort in a automatic door. Thanks!
