One day it's 70 degrees outside, sunny and warm, and the next day it's below freezing here in Virginia. Such is weather in the South. This past week the weather has been on the cusp of spring, but as I sit here typing, it's actually snowing. The signs of spring are unmistakable however - lots of mud, flower buds emerging and the longer days heralding an increase in egg production.
Sharing at Rurality Blog Hop,

I'm envying those eggs. You think your gals could talk to my gals about laying? :) They are nearing 21 weeks. We are waiting. Seems like it has been forever and a day.
ReplyDeleteWe are having 60 degrees one day and snow the next! :-(

Sounds like Michigan! We have had the craziest winters lately.
ReplyDeleteLove the fluffy chicken butt picture!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your photos! We, too are seeing an increase in egg production. -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteYes - it seems to be mud season right now. I wear slip-on shoes in the house and slip-on boots for my many trips outside to the coops (gotta collect eggs regularly so they don't freeze). I think I'm getting holes in my socks from all this slipping on and off of un-fancy footwear! But... my method has kept the mud primarily in the mud room... until my littles go running through, tracking mud into the inner reaches of the house. All farm houses should have nothing but hardwood on the floor. The carpet is taking a beating here.
ReplyDeleteLove the dog and cat picture!
Oh - and I have two pips today! (I'm very excited, lest you couldn't tell by my oddly-placed interjection - LOL.) 12 in the brooder, 8 more to hatch in the next few days and 3-4 more a week from Tuesday. I had better finish my next coop!
Hugs!

Yes mud everywhere. It's awful. We have some carpet too but mostly wood or tile floors.
DeleteExciting! I am waiting for hatching eggs for the first week of March - orps, ameraucanas and sussex...and then duck hatching eggs hopefully later in March! Yay!
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh how nice these pics are, love the little cottage and the horses beautiful face. Please send me some of your cool weather. We are sweltering here in a heat wave. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of all your hens, such a pretty display of color. Almost like a feathered bouquet.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the blue, silvery and black chickens? I'm new to the breeds. When I was a kid, the only chickens my grandparents had were Rhode Island Reds.
Mrs. J.
Here too, my grandparents raised Rhode Island Reds and some black ones I think were australorps. We have Lavender orpington, Blue Cochin, Blue Andalusians and Blue Copper Marans (all silver) and Olive Eggers, Australorps, Black Copper marans and a Black Cochin who are all black.
DeleteI am so jealous of your fresh eggs, they look great! My grandparents raised chickens growing up, but we live in the city, so no chickens for us :) I love all your photos! I saw your post on blogaholic and following you on GFC now. You can find me at

DeleteWhat a variety of farm animals, and so cute! The little flower is adorable, too.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been crazy here too. But it sure looks a lot more like spring in Virginia than it does in Ontario, Canada! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat serie of photos!
ReplyDeleteThis must be "rual" indeed!

Haha! I love the duck picture. Made me smile! I want to spread my wings like that! Hurry, spring!
