Several weeks ago I was contacted by the editor of Hobby Farms/Bowtie Publications and asked to be their Featured Chicken Keeper in the upcoming issue of Chickens magazine. I immediately accepted! A huge fan of Hobby Farms, and especially their bimonthly Chickens publication, I was honored that I (and Fresh Eggs Daily) had somehow come up on their radar.
It's been hard keeping quiet and waiting patiently for the issue to be published, but it's finally here! My issue arrived several days ago and I couldn't be more excited to read the article that resulted from my interview.

Hobby Farms Chickens dubbed me the 'Steele Magnolia' in the article, which really seems to fit me. I have been trying to come up with some kind of catchy 'handle' but nothing was coming to mind, so that works for me, and it really does kind of describe me pretty well. I guess my strong New England roots came through in the interview, along with my feminine side. I am definitely a girlie-girl. I cry at the end of sad movies and even some commercials, I love to wear dresses and aprons, and I can't even bear to kill a mouse, but when push comes to shove, don't mess with my family, and if you give me a hammer, I can build you a really neat chicken coop! So 'Steele Magnolia' it is.
I am also extremely excited to be featured in the same magazine (and in fact in back-to-back articles) as the author of one of my favorite cookbooks - Jennifer Trainer Thompson. I have a copy of her The Fresh Egg Cookbook in my kitchen. It's a wonderful cookbook and she shares a few of her recipes in the magazine. Her Shirred Eggs are a personal favorite of mine also. [Click here to purchase The Fresh Eggs Cookbook]
Also, exciting, our sponsor Shop the Coop's ceramic heater is also highlighted on the Poultry Products page of this issue. The heater is a far safer alternative to the traditional heat lamps to keep your flock warm through the winter and it can also be used to keep water from freezing.
