I decided to decorate our chicken coop for the Fourth of July. I was feeling mighty patriotic.
The coop was due for a good cleaning anyway so I took out all the old straw, scrubbed it down with a food-grade Diatomaceous Earth, Dawn dish detergent and water mixture and then sprayed my natural Orange Peel/Vinegar Coop Cleaner. After letting it dry completely, I got to work on my PATRIOTIC COOP MAKEOVER.
Using only a staple gun, scissors, contact paper, fabric, lace, some ribbon, double-sided tape and some bunting, I transformed my chicken coop into a Fourth of July extravaganza.
Come take a peek....
First I stapled up the contact paper - much easier than actually sticking it on.
Clearly Samantha didn't see the 'Closed for Renovations' sign !
She proceeded to lay an egg while I got the nesting box curtains cut and applied with double sided tape and the bows tied on. New straw went down on the floor next.
I hung some bunting on the ceiling...
And put fresh herbs in the nesting boxes....
Another bunting went on the nesting box roof.
By now word had spread and the chickens came over to see what was going on.
Yes, the makeover was more for me than for the chickens, but hey, nothing is more patriotic than getting back to your roots, emulating your ancestors and raising chickens!
Happy Fourth of July!
